Aerospace & defence

Indigenous defence production has more than doubled since 2020-21, and the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh and Chitrakoot nodes) is one of two such corridors in India. This page covers Ministry of Defence data and the state incentives.

Importance to the Indian economy

India's defence production reached a record ₹1.78 lakh crore in 2025-26, up 15.6% from ₹1.54 lakh crore in 2024-25; it was ₹1,27,434 crore in 2023-24 (Ministry of Defence, via PIB). The private sector's share rose to 24% in 2025-26.

Defence exports also hit a record ₹38,424 crore in 2025-26, up from ₹23,622 crore in 2024-25 and ₹21,083 crore in 2023-24. MSMEs supplying components, sub-assemblies and services to defence PSUs and private primes are a large part of this ecosystem.
