Import Export Code (IEC) & Export Registrations
An Import Export Code (IEC) is the first registration for any business that imports or exports goods. To claim most Foreign Trade Policy benefits you also need a Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) from the right export promotion council. We set these up and line them up with your bank, customs and GST records.
Registrations for a new exporter
- IEC from DGFT: PAN-based, applied for online on the DGFT portal. The IEC has to be updated online every year, even if nothing has changed, or it can be deactivated.
- RCMC: from the export promotion council for your product (or APEDA for scheduled agricultural and processed food products), issued through the DGFT platform. Needed to claim Foreign Trade Policy benefits.
- Customs and banking: registration of your AD code (authorised dealer bank) with customs at the ports you use, and ICEGATE registration for electronic filing.
- GST for exports: export under a Letter of Undertaking without paying IGST, or with payment and refund; the choice affects working capital.
- Product-specific: FSSAI for food imports and exports, APEDA or commodity board registrations, and phytosanitary or quality certificates as the destination requires.
Support for exporters in Uttar Pradesh
- The Export Promotion Bureau, UP runs state export-promotion schemes that generally look for IEC, GST registration and registration with the Bureau.
- The Ministry of MSME's International Cooperation scheme includes a component that reimburses RCMC charges for first-time MSE exporters. Ask us to check current availability before you rely on it.
- Export finance (packing credit and post-shipment credit) is part of working capital planning; we build it into your CMA data.
