Warehousing and logistics

Warehouses, cold chains, inland container depots and logistics parks lower the cost of moving goods. This page shows how freight volumes have grown and the Uttar Pradesh incentives for logistics infrastructure.

Importance to the Indian economy

Cargo handled at India's major ports rose from 819 million tonnes in 2023-24 to about 855 million tonnes in 2024-25 and a record 915 million tonnes in 2025-26 (Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, via PIB). Indian Railways also loaded a record 1,670 million tonnes of freight in 2025-26.

As freight grows, so does the need for modern storage and multimodal hubs. Uttar Pradesh sits on both Dedicated Freight Corridors and a large consumption market, which is why it has separate incentive policies for warehousing and for large multi-modal logistics parks.

What is not shown, and why: There is no official national series on warehousing capacity that we could verify; rail freight is shown for 2025-26 only because earlier years were not confirmed from an official release.

Central schemes can often be combined with state support: see subsidy stacking.
