FSSAI Licence & Registration

Every food business needs an FSSAI registration or licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. For processing units such as flour and rice mills, oil and solvent plants, dairies and beverage plants, the right category and an accurate product list matter as much as the licence itself.

Three tiers

The Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011 set three tiers. Which one applies depends on turnover, production capacity, the kind of business and where you operate.

TierTypically for
Basic registrationPetty food businesses and very small manufacturers.
State licenceSmall and medium manufacturers, processors, storage and distribution operating within the state.
Central licenceLarge manufacturing units, importers and exporters, operators in more than one state, and certain specified categories.

We confirm the exact threshold that applies to your unit at the time of application, as FSSAI revises these from time to time.

Our support

  • Category determination and product-wise food category mapping.
  • Application on the FSSAI FoSCoS portal with layout plan, equipment list, water test report, food safety management plan and nominee details.
  • Responses to inspection observations, licence modification when products or capacity change, renewal ahead of expiry, and annual returns where applicable.
  • Alignment with the plant layout in your DPR and factory approvals, so all three tell the same story.
